Jaffa Oranges

Look at the tall houses of old Jaffa (Yaffo) with it's orange trees. Jaffa oranges are a brand. The name given to citrus fruits produced in Israel. Originally the main area of citrus fruit was Jaffa and the export was carried out from Jaffa port. It was a local pride at the beginning of the 20th century, during the Ottoman Empire, when the growth of oranges was mainly in the hands of the Arab residents of Jaffa. The name was legally protected with the establishment of the Citrus Marketing Council by the British Mandate authorities. It is protected by the citrus marketing board as a registered trademark in 20 countries around the world, and especially at the European market where it is a popular brand.
